Growing Together

Jillian Lunoe, BMC ’22

With this watercolor painting I was attempting to express the beauty and freedom that comes from throwing off social pressures to conform and instead choosing to express one’s true self. The lyrics in the video are from YOASOBI’s song「怪物」(Monster). The lyrics I selected roughly translate to “What is my ideal form? Who am I truly? Thinking. Thinking. In a world with still no answers today, I am hoping.” The video shows the growth of a plant from seed to flower and its decision to share its true colors instead of remaining black and white like the other plants in the garden. After the first flower is brave enough to express itself, the others follow in its path and the garden becomes a more colorful, beautiful space.
